Quarantine lessons… Fighting the “Claustro-Gluttony” syndrome!

Annals of history say that the word quarantine comes from quarantena, meaning “forty days” a period during which all ships approaching Italy were required to be isolated before docking at port during the Black Death plague of 14th Century.

Thank the stars the quarantine period has now shrunk to 7 days; yet, keeping up your body and sprits alive and kicking in a claustrophobic confinement is no less a punishment if not an incarceration! In such a confined life within four walls, most of us spend the whole day binge-watching Netflix/Amazon prime and become gluttons gobbling up loads of chips and sugary drinks. We end up bloated, tired and exhausted, physically and mentally.

How do we overcome this predicament?

This is indeed a challenge but not impossible…. Here are a few things that we can do to help brighten up our spirits and keep our body fit.

Workouts: You don’t need to squeeze and sweat your body! Simple pushups, sit ups and crunches or Aerobics with your favorite music will be more than enough! And the best part is that you can work out whenever it suits you and with your jammies on!

A study by the University of Georgia says engaging in regular, low-intensity exercise can boost your energy levels by 20 % and decrease your fatigue by up to 65%.

Eating Healthy: Say bye to potato chips and fried meats! Choose a balanced meal that contains whole grains, greens, nuts, and lean meats that will supply the body with right nutrients and energize! And yes, pace up and down in slow steps while eating and avoid getting on to bed and messing it up!

No to Caffeine! Drinking coffee is almost an instinctive habit for most of us. A research report by Brain, Bryant & Cunningham says too much of coffee actually interrupts an important neurotransmitter called Adenosine making our body unable to relax and keeps us in a constant state of stress and fatigue! One or two cups in a day is fine. So, if you have a coffeemaker in your room remove it so that you can avoid the binge!

Keep hydrated: You don’t need to feel thirsty to drink water. It’s a basic scientific fact that about 60% of our body weight is made of water but we constantly loose water by means of sweat, urine or even while breathing! So drink plenty of water throughout the day at regular intervals. This also helps you control your desire for snacking!

Meditate: There are ample studies and reports on the benefits of meditation. A simple 15- to 20 minutes of focused meditation daily can reduce stress and stress-related conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and post-traumatic stress disorder. During meditation the frontal lobe of our brain, which is responsible for reasoning, planning, emotions etc, slows down from active processing leading to relaxed state of mind. It also helps us enhance our emotional health, helps in reducing age-related memory loss and lengthens our our attention span.

So managing a quarantine is not THAT difficult! All it takes is a bit of change of habits and some determination!

Happy Quarantine!

  1. I don’t need to tell you how important it is to optimize every step in your SEO pipeline. But unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to cut out time or money when it comes to getting good content. At least that’s what I thought until I came across Article Forge… Built by a team of AI researchers from MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, Article Forge is an artificial intelligence (AI) powered content writer that uses deep learning models to write entire articles about any topic in less than 60 seconds. Their team trained AI models on millions of articles to teach Article Forge how to draw connections between topics so that each article it writes is relevant, interesting and useful. All their hard work means you just enter a few keywords and Article Forge will write a complete article from scratch making sure every thought flows naturally into the next, resulting in readable, high quality, and unique content. Put simply, this is a secret weapon for anyone who needs content. I get how impossible that sounds so you need to see how Article Forge writes a complete article in less than 60 seconds! https://stanford.io/3qFFVSU
